Working from home – what your star sign says about your work style
Are you an easy-going Libra or a driven Scorpio? Find out what your star sign says about your work style when you work from home.
Your astronomy signs can reflect many aspects of your life, from how others perceive you, your love life and financial situations. Even if you tend to read them with a wry smile, we still subconsciously put weight in the idea that the sun, moon and stars can give us insight into who we really are.
Even the most sceptical person on reading a fact about Geminis will instinctively proclaim, ‘that’s so me’.
So, whether you believe in the idea of fate, or are suspicious of anything based around non-traditional science, there’s still some fun (and use) to being told the differences between Virgos and Aquarius’, or why two Leos should never date.
Gemma Hampson, a qualified health practitioner and wellness coach from the health and wellbeing brand GearHungry runs through the different approaches people have to working from home based on their star signs, from their strengths to weaknesses.
Working from home – what your star sign says about your work style
We’ve all had to make incredible adjustments to our work life’s over 2020 and into 2021, so even if you don’t fully take on board the concept of astronomy, it can’t hurt to have a little bit of help when traversing through the complex new world of working from home.
So, if you’re looking to better understand yourself and others in your new office life in the hope of establishing better relationships you can do a lot worse than looking towards the stars.
Can my horoscope really tell me about work?
Each zodiac sign is a complex equation of who you are. The light mocking that all horoscopes tell you to look out for a tall, dark stranger have thankfully passed, and instead the science behind it carries far more weight and can help guide us in the right direction.
Obviously, you won’t be looking at your horoscope and hoping for advice on big commitments, but we can work with them to help establish our behaviour at work, and why we do the things we do.
Aries (March 21 – April 20)
Working from home and away from positions of power can be an ever-present struggle for Aries’, who thrive on the respect and admiration of superiors.
That is not to say that Aries are ‘suck ups’ and ‘yes people’, but they do gravitate towards successful people, and their workstyle is a reflection of this. Hard working and focused, they need to see how all the pieces of a project come together, and how they can help it progress to the best possible outcome.
In the office this is a great quality, as all the tools are in front of them, but when working from home and without way of getting the information they need, they can become easily frustrated and distrusting of others work and effort.
On the flip side, they can also be trusted to manage themselves extremely well, and if kept in the loop can be one of the most valuable members of a team when you need to depend on someone.
Pros: Industrious, confident of their own abilities, high energy
Cons: Self-centred, impulsive, needs validation
Taurus (April 21 – May 20)
The perfect ‘hands on’ manager for the lockdown era of working. Ever the leader, they’re kind, understanding, quick to offer helpful advice and patient with issues.
In a time of uncertainty and helplessness brought on by lockdown, you want a Taurus in charge calling the shots. Even and fair, a Taurus will provide you with the ultimate insight into what you’re doing right, and unfortunately, what you’re doing wrong.
They don’t suffer fools gladly, and although they’re there to give a shoulder to cry, if they feel you’re not pulling your weight they won’t hold back when letting you know.
A Taurus colleague, when in the midst of a workload will be focused, reliable and persistent, and will expect absolutely nothing less from you. Because of their tremendously high standards, they can bring bad energy to the workplace if they feel things aren’t getting done, and don’t forgive easily if a mistake is made.
Pros: Enduring, a strong leader, warm-hearted
Cons: Jealous, can get in their own head, resentful of lesser workers
Gemini (May 21 – June 21)
The common misconception with Geminis is that they’re two-faced, when in reality they just have a natural ability to adapt to all types of personalities. Want someone to talk to the new guy about rugby, and then later gossip about the latest celebrity spat on twitter? Ask a Gemini.
Thriving off playful antics, and ever the ‘ideas’ people, Geminis aren’t naturally suited to working from home alone as they need people to bounce off and tend to become distance when kept out of social work environments.
That’s not to say they won’t work hard, as they’re versatile to new situations, but don’t be surprised if you don’t hear from them all day and never get a response to your e-mails. Because of their flexible nature, they also have a tendency to overreacting to things they don’t understand, or worse, no nothing about at all.
When dealing with a Gemini working from home, remember to keep up on the details and keep them check, as the slightest error can easily derail their mood.
Pros: Adaptable to different work environments, full of ideas, versatile
Cons: Anxious, minor problems can overwhelm them, underhanded
Cancer (June 22 – July 22)
Creative and naturally full of ideas, Cancers tend to bring positivity and nurturing personalities to any workspace they enter.
During Lockdown and working from home, a Cancer will be the one to keep everyone in contact and bring people together for brainstorming sessions, or after work activates.
They aren’t made for sudden changes though, and the fluctuations of office’s opening and closing would have hit them hard. Steady priorities and goals are a must and removing them can leave a Cancer lost and without focus.
Because of this, they may seem fragile, but Cancers respond well to struggles, and are natural helpers, though can become overly emotional and dependent on the praise of others.
Pros: Intuitive to needs, imaginative, will be there for struggling employees
Cons: Moody, dependant on approval, over-emotional
Leo (July 23 – August 21)
There’s an argument to be made that the animal of a Leo shouldn’t be a lion, but an alpha male wolf. Leos are leaders, whether they’re in charge or not, and will naturally gravitate to positions of power, or at least positions in which they can control situations.
During lockdown this means you’ll probably be hearing them talk a lot of zoom meetings, or pinging e-mails in your direction with ways to improve a project.
In fact, Leos are so focused on their goals and demands that they probably haven’t even noticed they’re working away from the office – they’re so engrossed in their work ethic or targets that all they see is the end results.
Because of this, especially when not accompanied by body language, Leos can come across bossy and patronising in e-mails, which can quickly turn other workers against them. A way to relieve the tensions is to throw them a compliment, as Leos genuinely appreciate being noticed for their hard work and effort.
Pros: All about the end goal, focused, brings energy
Cons: Bossy, patronizing, and intrusive
Virgo (August 22 – September 23)
Virgos are workers who love the fine details, partly because it’s in their nature to not let any aspect pass them by without notice, and partly because they’re total perfectionists.
If you have a project or task that needs the best possible effort put in, but you’re not able to oversee it due to lockdown restrictions, give it to a Virgo and it’ll be a job well done.
They sincerely want to better the company and themselves and will raise up the work rate of anyone you pair them with, though their mindset can sometimes come off as them being a bit of a know-it-all.
Because of their drive, they will man-manage and takeover projects if they feel the other person isn’t capable, which is obviously an issue when everyone isn’t in the same office to offer input and grow.
Pros: Meticulous even when working from home, practical, trustworthy
Cons: Overly critical, perfectionist, overbearing when left on their own
Libra (September 24 – October 23)
Libras no trouble attitude and easy-going nature are ideal for these stressful, uncertain times. Not every team member can be a general or maternal figure, and when making up a dream team of staff you’ll always need a Libra in there.
That’s not to say they don’t carry their weight, it’s just every team needs a team player, and Libras bring positive vibes and perspective to any role – amplifying others around them.
Always fair, they expect the same from you, so always act with integrity and they’ll happily stand by you. Though as with all easy-going types, they can sometimes be easily influenced, and turn away from conflict, instead seeking peace and sitting on the fence, so if you’re looking to get an honest answer over e-mail, don’t expect a profound reply from a Libra
Pros: A calming influence, steady, diplomatic (to a fault)
Cons: Indecisive, overly- sensitive, easily influenced
Scorpio (October 24 – November 22)
Depending on how you look at it, Scorpios are ideal for companies who currently have staff working from home. Passionate about their work, and driven beyond belief, when a Scorpio has a goal in mind, there’s sometimes no stopping them.
If you’re working from home, that can mean that a Scorpio expects the same dedication from your work that they have for theirs, so anticipate text messages pinging into the work group chat at 9pm. And with Scorpios, it’s best to answer them, as they’re notorious for holding grudges and can be very unforgiving for past mistakes.
During these times in which we’re working from home, it’s best to have a Scorpio on side, as they can become resentful and obsessive if they feel you don’t mean what you say. That’s not to say they’re super villains, but their hard-working nature and steely determination can rub people up the wrong way.
Pros: Passionate about their work and people around them, emotional, a go-getter
Cons: Obsessive, resentful of people who don’t live for work, never switches off
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)
The Mr Motivators of the office world, Sagittarius’ infectious good-nature and well-meaning personality is fundamental to have around in these gloomy times.
Mistakenly seen by some people as a doormat in terms of how they’re treated by others, Sagittarius’ aren’t there to pretend to please – they really do care.
Possessing a positive attitude and big heart, working with a Sagittarius can feel like working alongside your favourite teacher, as they have a natural ability of making sure everything is where it should be. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and they have to shine, otherwise they can become withdrawn.
A downside to their spirit-boosting personality is that they sometimes don’t handle themselves in the most professional way and can unintentionally drag you down with them when explaining their actions. Also, because of their good nature, they tend to not always give productive criticism of you or your work, instead focusing on the positive.
Pros: Optimistic about the future, good-humoured, enthusiastic
Cons: Irresponsible when in the wrong, absent minded, overly positive
Capricorn (December 23 – January 20)
Similar to Leos, Capricorns are all about the work life, though unlike Leos they tend to do it not for reward, but because they just want everything to run smoothly. If you’re already thinking that sounds like an ideal work colleague for Lockdown, then you’re absolutely right.
Capricorns are perfect leaders when everyone is working from home, as they are self-disciplined and motivated, and expect the same from others.
Like Geminis, they are also accustomed to getting on with many different types of people, and styles of working. They can be a bit too straight-forward when explaining things they don’t like, and if they have an issue with you don’t expect them to sugar coat it.
Also, because they’re so practical, don’t think you’ll be getting world beating ideas – Capricorns are there to put the plans into action, not create them.
Pros: Always the professional, a leader, dedicated
Cons: Lack of imagination, pessimistic when the chips are down, blunt
Aquarius (January 21 – February 19)
Need someone to get in the zone, work throughout the day and produce top results? Aquarius can sometimes be portrayed as the robots of the star signs, though I see it more as an unwaning devotion to their craft.
When working from home, expect Aquarius’ to thrive being on their own and just getting on with it, though that’s not to say they don’t enjoy input from others.
Aquarius’ welcome advice and help, and love providing support for others, just make sure you ask them at the right time, as they can come off as distant and unemphatic when they put their mind to something and are interrupted.
Because they’re sometimes seen as unemotional when working, this can lead to miscommunication, especially when we’re all working form different locations. Try to give them space, and when out of work modethey’re very loyal and honest, perfect for chats over lunchbreaks.
Pros: Friendly when uninterrupted, open to ideas, independent
Cons: Unpredictable when annoyed, unemotional if busy, cold
Pisces (February 20 – March 20)
Compassionate and open to talk through problems, Pisces in the workplace will always be there to listen and help talk through difficulties.
They’re also creative and free thinking, and although you may question their approach to work you don’t want to step on their toes or micromanage them, as they’re natural day dreamers and always thinking things through (if you’re waiting on an email from them, maybe go and make a coffee).
Like with a lot of compassionate people, they’re sometimes easily lead astray and struggle to stand up for themselves when put in surroundings of stress, so if they’re ruined your day by making a mistake, maybe keep it to yourself.
Likable and selfless when it comes to praise, Pisces tend to put the feelings of others first during lockdown, so try and ask how they’re doing every now and then.
Pros: Creative, sympathetic, selfless even when swamped with work
Cons: Vague on details, easily led in wrong directions, weak-willed around bossier people
