What do I wear when I go back to work after maternity leave?
Help! I’m planning to go back to work after maternity leave in a few weeks but have no idea what to wear. I haven’t lost all my baby weight yet and feel really self conscious about my tummy. How can I make over my wardrobe to create outfits that will help me to feel and look good?
Going back to work after having a baby is a big move and we can understand why it’s so important for you to feel comfortable about your look.
If you can’t fit back into your pre-baby wardrobe, we suggest buying two of three key pieces that fit your current shape and mix with maternity wear for comfort – if you feel good in what you’re wearing you’ll feel better about your shape and won’t spend all day worrying about how tight an item feels.
If you work in a creative environment and the dress code is more casual, this Ganni dress has a flattering blouson style top with a longer length sleeve and peplum front. It looks great teamed with Topshop maternity leggings and on-trend John Lewis ankle boots. Top the look off with a delicate necklace – we think this Bill Skinner cherub charm is perfect for a new mum!
If your office dress code is more conservative, then a dress is an easier option for a new working mum dashing out the house in a rush in the mornings. This Betty Jackson jersey dress with tuck detailing and pattern helps to draw the eye away from problem areas. And if you’ve got good legs a bare leg and Dune nude heel will add an instant glam factor. Alternatively you can match it with an opaque tight with tummy control and a Michael Kors patent court.
Whatever you do choose to wear, the key thing to take into account is comfort. Dress like ‘you’ in clothes that fit and flatter (whatever your shape) and you’ll feel better and more confident.
