Three quick and simple ways to feel better about yourself

Highs and lows are a part of life. You have good days, and then you have those hard days where you just feel sad.

Sometimes those down days can feel hard to get past, and can end up leaving you depressed or anxious for days or weeks at a time. That’s not something that anybody wants to happen… so how can you break out out of a funk if you find yourself in one?

There may not be a one-size-fits-all solution, but luckily there are a few quick and easy tricks to start feeling better about yourself

It starts with your mindset. Rather than reaching for negative thoughts, try to look for the positives and tell yourself loving things. Trust your gut and keep going. You have strength, love, and light inside you. And sometimes finding it simply starts by telling yourself you’re amazing and worthy of happiness.

Once you conquer that mindset, it’ll be easy to face life head-on and feel better about yourself every day. Here are three more ideas to help you feel better about yourself if you’re having a bad day or week.

1) Talk it out

Life doesn’t always go as planned, and rough patches are pretty much inevitable. When you experience a difficult time, one way to feel better is to simply talk about it. Phone a friend who can help encourage you or simply write out what you’re thinking and feeling.

Bottled up emotions have the power to eat away at you, so don’t let them linger. Replace any negative thoughts with positive affirmations, and try to remind yourself how awesome you truly are.

That said, for people who struggle with mental health conditions, simply willing yourself to ‘feel better’ doesn’t always make it so. In this case, you may want to research mental health resources and see if therapy or professional mental health care may be a good option for you.

Trained psychiatrists can help you tackle your mental illness and find peace and comfort to start feeling better, today.

2) Dress up

When you’re stuck in one of life’s slumps, you may accidentally end up looking the part. But as tempting as it may feel, living in sweatpants and t-shirts for days on end can actually affect your mood and make you feel lazy or depressed.

Sometimes making yourself feel better is all about boosting your confidence, so ditch the sweats and opt to dress up a little. Even if it’s Sunday afternoon or if you’re working from home, putting on a nice outfit can make you feel ready and excited to greet the day.

Dressing yourself up doesn’t stop at the clothes – you need to take care of your body too. Look into quick and easy makeup tutorials to boost confidence, and express yourself in fun and creative ways with makeup – experiment with what makes you happy and shows off your personality.

Maybe you’re someone who loves wearing false eyelashes. If so, treat yourself to an eyelash kit with new, magnetic eyelashes that you can clip on for an instant feeling of fierceness. Investing in a fun treat can make you feel better every time you use it.

3) Center yourself

Meditation is often seen as a spiritual exercise or type of prayer. However, there are many different forms of meditation, and it can be used to help calm anxiety, reduce stress, increase focus, and develop an overall sense of calm despite external turmoil.

Meditation is a means of learning how to slow your breathing and calm your mind when you are surrounded by chaos and feeling out of control. You can listen to guided meditations on YouTube for free at any time throughout the day or night.

You can learn to meditate by sitting quietly for a few minutes clearing your mind. Memorize a mantra that you repeat when inducing the calm feeling that meditation provides. There are also meditations you can exercise while walking, laying down, driving, or even eating.

Once you learn the art of meditation, you can connect with your calming energy at any time and feel better about yourself.
