Nine emails that will make your customers fall in love with you on Valentine’s Day

Stuck for ideas to boost your sales and brand presence on Valentine’s Day? Here are nine emails that will make your customers fall in love with you.

While I’m writing this article, heart-shaped everything is being produced and shipped. That’s because Valentine’s Day is approaching, and every business owner and marketer wants to have a little part of it.

And it’s easy to see why: in the only USA last year people spent just below $20 billion for Valentine’s Day, of which $4 billion went on jewellery, and $2 billion on flowers. Cards made up 49.7% of consumers’ purchases, and dining out was number three on the list of popular Valentine’s day choices.

94% of the people interviewed in the 2017 WalletHub survey were looking forward to receiving candy and chocolate, and 49.7% of them would get their wish. Flowers were fourth place on their wish list, followed by clothes, and gift cards. Shopping for their partners’ pets was the choice of a 20% of the interviewed consumers.

Consumers are always more interested in buying and receiving unusual gifts and experiences, so, nearly every type of business owners should take advantage of this lovely time of the year. And the perfect way to reach your customers is to send them Valentine-themed emails.

Nine emails that will make your customers fall in love with you on Valentine’s Day

So how can you ensure your customers fall in love with your Valentines emails, and actually engage and buy? To help inspire you, where are nine ideas for emails you can send.

1) Playful emails

Send your customers a playful email for Valentine’s Day. For example, let them choose their favourite colour from a palette, and direct them to a respective landing page, filtered by colour. Or you can send them a selection of celebrity styles. By clicking on their favourite icons they will be transferred to the celebrity-inspired outfits in your online shop.

2) Inclusive emails

Make sure your Valentine emails resonate with every customer, regardless of their relationship status, sexual orientation, and so on. Your communications are a physical demonstration of your company values, and play a precious role in brand loyalty and social inclusion. You could even create a designated area on your website for anti-Valentines.

3) Thoughtful emails

Give customers a complimentary Valentine card at checkout. You could even let them choose between Grumpy Valentine or Romantic Valentine!

4) Artistic emails

Send customers a picture of a piece of artwork that celebrates love, with interesting information about it.

5) Specific emails

Adding name personalisation to your email subject lines will help attract your customers’ attention, but don’t overdo this. Just use it in your most important emails or people will become ‘blind’ to it.

6) Visual emails

Choose the right emoji in your subject line to accompany words. But don’t use emojis to replace words as not everyone will see them, and you don’t want your subscribers to read subject lines like:

  • A is just as good as a
  • Valentine’s: or ?
  • On Valentine’s, don’t get your with the wrong
  • On V-day, buy a . Or anything from THIS list

7) Persistent emails

Set up a Valentine email sequence. The first email of the series could feature His then Hers gifts, along with separate product categories.

8) Timely emails

Increase engagement and sales across your audiences with a “valentimer” countdown.

9) Witty emails

Great use of microcopy in your emails can help them – and your brand – to stand out. So, for example, instead of “If you no longer wish to receive our emails, click here to unsubscribe.” think how you can create witty and cute alternatives. People may change their mind before clicking it!
