In this article we are going to explore how you can thoroughly research a real estate business today.

Whether you’re simply interested in the real estate market, you’re looking up competitors, or you want to see what services are available to you so you can sell your home, there are some simple steps for you to follow to research what’s out there.

If you’re searching for facts and opinions on a specific business, you’re going to want to search things like ‘Is Compass real estate a good company’ to see what kind of content has been published.

You can also have a look on their own website to see what they put out – what do they stand for, what’s the brand tone of voice, do they use their social media channels to update their audience, etc. This will show you how they portray themselves to the world.

As well as this, you’re going to want to look at reviews, from clients and employees, to see what people’s first-hand experiences have been like with the company. This can be profound, as you may find that the reviews tell a totally different story from the image that is painted on the company’s website and social accounts.

Make notes

You’re going to find a lot of information in a short space of time, so it’s a very good idea to take notes on what you discover. You can do this on a spreadsheet, or even just with a pen and paper – whatever you’d rather.

You could add your findings to a chart, as this is a great way for you to compare the business you’re researching to others in the same industry. You want to take note of their stats, such as how many followers they have on LinkedIn, how many employees they have, what the business valuation is, etc.

If you’re ultimately wanting to answer a particular question with your research, then writing it down to work out the possibilities can help you. For example, if you want to know why one real estate business is as successful as it is – look at the data, check out what the average reviews are saying, and see if you can spot common themes. It’s all there for you to work it out.

Compare

When you have all your information and notes, it’s a good idea to then get some other real estate businesses involved in your research. You should look at competitors to add to your chart, as this will put things in perspective.

Maybe one company was started before another, but the newer one has far more employees than the business that’s been about longer – it’ll be interesting to see what patterns you can spot. This is also something you can update each month, to see what changes happen over time.

Ask people around you

You also have the option to ask around people you know, particularly if you’re close to someone who works in real estate. Or you could get in touch with the business directly, as then you can get firsthand experience of what they’re like, and they might be able to help you with your research. The opportunities are endless!
