Last week we opened the door to this year’s Easy Business Club cohort. The Easy Business Club is a year-long business course and mentorship programme in which I work with you personally to help you grow your confidence, and income.
The 2023-24 cohort have achieved amazing progress, and I am excited about working with a new group of ambitious freelancers and small business owners.

Why did Laura need my help?
Laura originally joined a six month programme with me in 2018. At that time, she was struggling to find clients, and her goal was to increase her earnings to just under the tax threshold.
Here are some of the things Laura shared in a questionnaire when she joined the programme:
- I currently act on a reactive rather than proactive basis which I would like to change.
- I don’t know where to start with goal setting – it all seems too big and a bit overwhelming.
- I go from being quite confident that I am doing the right things, making the right decisions, to then querying myself.
- I haven’t raised my prices due to not thinking my services/ability is worth any more and scared higher prices will deter people from using me.
What did I help Laura do?
One of the first things we looked at was Laura’s pricing. When we reviewed it (using the exercise I take you through in the Easy Business Club), Laura was shocked to discover she was only earning around £5 an hour. So that was clearly a priority.
After a competitor analysis and examination of who her ideal clients were (another exercise you’ll do in the Easy Business Club), we decided to niche down on her audience and create a new pricing structure with significantly higher prices.
Laura was nervous about implementing her new pricing, but with my encouragement she did. And it worked – she started attracting her ideal customers and they were comfortable with her pricing. She’s even increased her pricing almost every year since then, on my recommendation.
Marketing was another area Laura needed help with. She used the marketing strategy you will work through in the Easy Business Club and planned a consistent communication calendar. We also identified LinkedIn as a good platform for her, and I recommended she spend half an hour a day posting and engaging on it.
To sum up, here’s what I helped Laura to do:
- Revise and increase her prices
- Refine her target audience
- Create a pricing plan
- Plan a marketing strategy
- Start using LinkedIn daily
What were Laura’s results?
I’m delighted to say that Laura smashed all her goals – the combination of new pricing and consistent marketing meant she was earning far more than her financial goal quite quickly. (She now earns significantly over the tax threshold!)
Today LinkedIn is Laura’s best pipeline for clients, and she’s so busy that she now has three associates ready to take on the overspill from her work. (You can see Laura’s website here.)
I still work with Laura today, supporting her and advising on her business. And her confidence has grown so much that, three years ago, she launched the British Association of CV Writers (BACVW), a not-for-profit UK organisation that vets and supports CV writers, in an attempt to bring some regulation to the industry.
