Four ways to turn your childhood dreams into reality

Has your adult reality not turned out quite as you hoped when you were young? We look at four ways you can turn your childhood dreams into reality.

We all have dreams. The problem is that once we become adults, these goals and aspirations can sometimes be pushed to the sidelines. And with bills to pay and mouths to feed, who can blame you? But it’s time to turn things around for the better.

The world is in your hands. You can get one step closer to turning your childhood dreams into a reality by following four simple steps.

1) Harness a creative mindset

To get the ball rolling, you need to go back in time and start at square one. Think back to when you were a child, enjoying every pleasure life has to offer. Think about the mindset you used to have back then and try to replicate this in your daily life. This means thinking outside of the box and re-wiring your adult brain to see beyond the obvious.

Children have many admirable qualities, but a creative approach to life might be the best. Even as adults, you can harness the creative energy of your past to make changes in your present. Whether your dreams are a job as an artist or to own your own ponies, having a fresh approach on how to achieve this is a stepping stone to success.

2) Make room for playtime

Playtime is an important aspect of a child’s life. In fact, there is research to show that playing encourages cognitive and physical development, from learning social skills to building core muscle strength necessary for later life. But if this applies to children, why do we not believe the same for adults?

This doesn’t mean you have to rediscover your passion for Lego (although you definitely can if you want to). You can make any time playtime, such as playing sports or visiting an escape room with your friends on the weekends. By letting your hair down every so often, you’re likely to feel less stressed and ready to achieve your dreams.

3) Dress for success

You don’t have to stop there. Dressing up is one of the best forms of playtime! Even better, fashion experts argue that the way we dress has the ability to increase our mood. This trend is called dopamine dressing, and it might be exactly what you need to achieve your dreams.

Every day starts with the clothes you choose to wear. These fashion choices can also filter into your daily life, such as your mood and productivity. For example, did you used to have a favourite crossbody bag in a purple and pink floral design? If so, do yourself a favour – rekindle your love for exciting fashion choices, and dress for success today.

4) Make a step-by-step plan

Last and certainly not least, you can always make a step-by-step plan to achieve your childhood dreams. You need to know what your dreams are before you can overcome any obstacles. They also have to be realistic.

If you dreamed of being an astronaut, for example, it would be easier to start by enrolling on a local science course and learning everything there is to know about aerospace engineering, rather than heading straight for the moon.

On the other hand, you might have fantasised about being an artist when you were a child. This might not be achievable in your life right now. After all, no matter how good you are with a paintbrush, you still have to make a living. So why not start an Etsy page and build your dreams one order at a time? It can be that simple.

Being childish isn’t always bad, even as adults! Once you’re able to follow these steps, you’ll be a little bit closer to achieving everything you dreamed about as a youngster.

Try to approach everything with an open mind, just as you would have when your legs were short and all you thought about were if chicken nuggets and chips were on the menu that night. Those were the days…
