Four tips for designing the perfect website for your business

The future of business is, for many of us, online. So having a website and an online presence for your business is very likely to be essential to its growth and success.

But what makes a website a successful asset to your business? What should you avoid? These tips will help you on your way to designing the perfect website for your brand.

1) Keep your homepage free of clutter.

Your website’s homepage should communicate your core message instantaneously. After all, we rarely read every word on a website. Instead, we quickly scan the page, picking out key words, sentences and images. With these known behaviors in mind, it’s better to appeal to emotions rather than word count.

Keep important content above the fold, space out your content, add imagery and include a call to action. These are essentials to your homepage and all else should be diverted to other pages.

2) Create easy to read website content

Readability measures how easy it is for people to recognise words, sentences and phrases. When your site’s readability is high, users will be able to effortlessly scan or skim read through it. This way, taking in the information becomes effortless.

Contrast the colour of your text to the background of your site, use large letter sizes and easy, bold fonts, but make sure to stick to one style of family of fonts, in order to help make your content easy to read and stand out on your page.

3) Ensure your site is easy to navigate

It may be in your nature to break the mold, but website navigation is not the place to be avant garde. After all, you want your users to easily find what they’re looking for. In addition, a site with solid navigation helps search engines index your content whilst greatly improving the user experience. Use links on your home page, make sure your menu is easy to use and add links to your footer to ensure that your website is easy to use.

4) Stay mobile friendly

All of your site visitors should be able to enjoy your professional website at its very best, no matter the device they’re browsing. When designing a website, Wix automatically creates a mobile-friendly version of your site, so that you can keep pace with the increasingly mobile world. Go over your site’s mobile version while putting yourself in the position of the user, and test out every page, user action and button.

Your mobile website should be cleaner and less cluttered than your desktop version, so consider minimizing page elements and scaling down some assets, like the menu. There are also unique mobile features that you can use to boost your mobile design.
