Beat the heat with our five hot summer makeup tips

Summer is finally here! And to help ensure you look your best come rain or (hopefully!) shine, we’ve put together five hot makeup tips.

Whether you’re heading to the beach or preparing for your summer holiday, making a few adjustments to your makeup routine will ensure your makeup wont cake and your mascara wont run – even in the hottest climes.

Our five hot summer makeup tips

In hot weather makeup should be simple and relaxed. By swapping to a few light and fresh products, you’ll be beach ready in no time.

To help you get the look you want this summer, makeup artist Pamela Moss shares her top five melt-proof makeup tips.

1) Make time to prime

It only takes a minute to smooth on a primer, but it’s worth doing as it really helps to hold your makeup in place.

Apply your primer after your moisturiser but before your foundation to get a long lasting smooth base for whatever you put on next. I think Laura Mercier oil free tinted mosituriser (£29 from John Lewis) is the best of them all.

2) Lighten up

As the temperatures soar it’s time to swap your foundation for a tinted mosituriser. These sheer formulas provide coverage while feeling extremely light, and most contain SPF to help protect against harmful UVA/UVB rays. Try Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser SPF 20 (£34 from John Lewis again).

If a tinted moisturiser leaves you feeling a little exposed and you can’t resist the coverage of a foundation, consider swapping to a long lasting foundation formula which is both heat and water proof. Try the makeup artist favourite MAC face and body (£21.50 from MAC).

3) Get the glow

Cheat your way to a beautiful summer glow by using a subtle bronzer on the high points of your face. For maximum effect, apply where the sun hits your face naturally such as forehead, cheekbones and nose.

A suit-all favourite is Chanel bronze universal (£32 from Boots). For a believable glow make sure you sweep a little bronzer onto your neck and ears too.

4) Waterproof your mascara

For beach-worthy eyes you definitely need to invest in waterproof mascara. Try Clinique high impact waterproof mascara (£16.50 from Clinique).

To remove use an oily cleanser such as the new Decleor Micellar Oil (£21.25 from feelunique.com).

5) Use multi-tasking products

Choose a product like NARS mutilple (£30 from NARS) which can be used on cheeks and lips as a beautiful summer stain. Simply apply straight from the bullet or with your fingers and blend into skin to give you the most subtle finish.
