Interview with Sarah Negus, the Modern Day Shaman

Find out how former investment banker Sarah Negus, 52, from Surrey, cured her illnesses, changed her career and gained the emotional strength to leave her marriage after learning how to use shamanic energy.

What’s your career background?

In 1986 I worked in the city of London as an investment banker I loved the job, but a few years later I suffered from a breakdown which left me in hospital for five days, I had my first near death experience and was unable to work for six months as I dropped into depression and exhaustion.

I moved on to being a PA in an Accountancy firm, and a year later decided to work for The Royal Philanthropic Society as a voluntary worker which saw me working as appropriate adult for children held on remand, awaiting trial. In 1992 I decided to set up a property development company with my husband, and by 1997 I was lucky enough to be able to build my own house.

By 2004, I had left the corporate world behind and set up a pilates business and hands on healing clinic, this business venture only lasted a year before I realised that spiritual mentoring was my true calling. I have been a mentor ever since and I now work with 6 and 7 figure entrepreneurs and executives.

How did your career change after having children?

After I had children I put my career on hold and took a 3 year break. I returned to work for our family business which meant I was able to juggle the kids with being a mum.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

The idea for my current business didn’t come to me all of a sudden one day, it naturally evolved over time.

How did you move from idea to actual business?

When I was running my pilates studio and hands on healing clinic, I believed I could go on to do bigger and greater things. I began to explore the online world of Facebook in 2008 and decided to take a version of my healing clinic online which proved to be very popular.

In 2013 I offered 150 free hour sessions to those all over the world to test my own abilities and build my confidence, after 10 sessions I knew I was onto something as the results people were getting were huge. Things only went uphill from there, I haven’t looked back since.

What’s your USP?

I am the Modern Day Shaman, and I marry the ancient art of shamanism with modern psychology and mindset work, to empower women to find their best self and live a life of purpose and meaning.

Who’s your target audience?

My target audience are women who are searching for more in their lives.

How do you spread the word about what you do?

Word of mouth works really well for me, because what I do is so unique, I think people are intrigued to know more. Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn are also great.

What’s been your most successful marketing strategy?

I love to share the great transformations that my clients achieve, they really speak for themselves.

What’s been the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?

My own fear of being ridiculed is by far the greatest obstacle.

And your proudest moment so far?

Standing on stage and holding over 100 entrepreneurs in trance in a shamanic journey and hitting multiple six figures in a year.

Why is work so important to you?

It doesn’t really feel like work, I consider it my purpose and my gift to the world.

Who inspires you?

My future self does, I look to where I aspire to be and then do all I can to live up to that expectation. I’m also inspired by Oprah Winfrey who I think is an amazing soul.

How do you balance your work with your family?

I work about 20 hours max a week, so it’s easy for me.

What are your three top pieces of advice for someone wanting to do something similar?

  1. Get a mentor who you resonate with and inspires you.
  2. Think bigger than you are right now – you’re thinking too small I can say for certain.
  3. Always use your self doubt, procrastination and self sabotage as a tool for growth – on the other side of your fear is your future.
