How to refresh your home without redecorating everything
Sometimes you just get bored of your house without there being anything specifically wrong with it, and that can be the worst situation to be in. After all, if there’s nothing really wrong, how can you put it right?
One thing you can do is to make a few small changes and refresh some areas of your home and see if that makes a difference – it could work perfectly, and if not, you can always move onto bigger things. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.
Move things before you buy anything
It’s amazing how different and fresh a room can look and feel just by moving a few things around and rearranging the things that can be rearranged. For example, moving a chair over by a window could give you an entirely new place to relax in that works better than where it was before, and a lamp in a different place can literally change the atmosphere of a room.
The fact is that sometimes rooms feel a bit stale because your brain’s become too used to seeing everything exactly where it’s been for years, and moving things around is all it takes to improve the situation – and it costs literally nothing.
Lighting is better than paint
Bad lighting can make a home feel properly dull very quickly, especially during winter when it gets dark ridiculously early. And if you want to make your lighting better, the good news is that you don’t always need new fixtures – change the bulbs to a warmer colour, put lamps in different places, install some wall lights or a dimmer switch, for example, and all of that can change a room for the better right away.
People can spend ages choosing a new paint colour, but if better lighting would improve a room, is there any need to (unless you really want to, of course)?
Replace the bits you touch every day
Something that’s easy to forget about but important to deal with is all those little things around the house that you touch or use every day, like handles, light switches, taps, hooks, and so on.
These are the things that can really give your home its own personality, and changing some boring bits for the best home hardware makes sense – not only is the house going to look and feel better, but you don’t have to do any major renovations either.
Clear surfaces properly
When we say clear your surfaces properly, that’s exactly what we mean – they need to be actually clear, and not just tidy. There’s actually quite a big difference between the two things.
You’ll often find that homes tend to collect clutter, but it happens slowly, and you’ll end up with post, cables, bags, and all sorts of random objects left in various places and then it all just stays there, even if it really doesn’t belong. That means the rooms start to be less relaxing, so even clearing one room properly can make the whole house feel better.
