How to be a better boss to your employees
Your employees need a boss that is fair, kind, and helpful. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you have got to be a pushover. Far from it actually.
You can be a boss that runs a tight ship and still have people who like you, you just need to think about how to do this carefully. Ensuring that you have the respect and are liked by your employees is important when you own a business, and we’re going to be looking at some of the ways that you can be the best possible boss.

Show up for them
The first thing that you are going to need to do is make sure that you show up for them. Be there when you need them. Always be the first one to offer your help when they need it, and be the first one to tell them they have done a good job when this occurs.
You want to be the boss that shows up to train employees, that is there for them to guide them through the hard parts of working for your business. You don’t want to be the boss that sits in their office all day, that nobody ever sees and sometimes people wonder if you really do anything at all.
Your employees are out there working hard for you, so the least that you can do is work hard for them. You can even show your appreciation every now and then in small gifts. We’re not talking about anything big, but something like personalised lanyards for their company ID are a great gift.
Support and encourage them
As their boss, it’s your job to support and encourage them. At the end of the day, all of their efforts in their job will directly benefit you as you are the one who owns the company. You should make sure that you are supporting them in whatever way they need. If this means that you need to give them a little bit of help on a project, go and do it. Or, if at the time it means that you need to encourage them to work out the solution on their own, do that too. Be a mentor, but be kind.
Listen to what they say
Finally, if you want to be the best boss possible you are going to have to listen to what they say. Employees will tell you things that you need to know, you just need to have your ears open. Try to hear what they are not saying as well as what they are saying, and you will find that they love you even more for it.
