Snuggle up in a cosy home office outfit

There’s a definite chill in the air and while you may have turned the heating on in the evening, cranking it up all day may feel a tad excessive.

So if you’re working from home (especially if you’re stuck behind a desk) in the day, you’ll need outfits that are as warm as they are comfortable.

To help you stay cosy while you work, fashion stylist Karen Skagerlind picks her winter 2014 favourites.

Slave away in loungewear

Loungewear has come into its own over the last couple of years, and a lot of brands now have a category dedicated to this relaxed style of dressing – perfect when working in your home office.

(Not that I’m suggesting that working on your business from the comfort of your sofa is comparable to lounging around with a glass of wine and Christmas special of Downton Abbey… if only!)

Look for relaxed, pull-on joggers and hoodies, or  give your onesie an update with this luxury pure cashmere jumpsuit from The White Company. If you’re going to spend £225 then you want it to be in a classic neutral, so this silver grey marl is ideal. It’s definitely one on my Christmas wish list!

Jump in the navy

When it’s nippy outside you want something easy to throw on over your faithful blue jeans in the morning. This slouchy fit, ribbed jumper in navy is just the thing.

From the Marques’Almeida X at Topshop range, the asymmetric front hem gives it just enough edge to distinguish it from that misshapen, pilled, sloppy jumper languishing at the bottom of your wardrobe.

Wear with a patent brogue and a cropped tailored trouser for a meeting, or team with leggings and over-the knee-boots for a Sunday brunch look.

Pull on over your PJs

Want something to hand so you can tug it over your PJs when the postman rings to handover a parcel? Then this Zara knit jacket fits the bill.

With a hood and deep pockets you can snuggle in and keep warm while tapping out those emails.

For a layered winter outfit, put a fine turtleneck knit under a dark denim shirt, leggings and a biker boot with this over the top. No need for a bobble hat when you’ve already got a hood!

My favourite 2014 poncho

The easiest item to wrap up in if you’re chilly, is this season’s wrap/poncho. I’ve just purchased this from no other than M&S!

It’s wear-with-anything colour palette makes it a versatile layer and with more than a hint of the ‘it’ Burberry poncho, it has now given my tried and tested winter outfits a much-needed fashion fix.

Stay cosy and stylish

So buy these winter warmers now – keep the thermostat down and look forward to Jack Frost nipping at your nose… or it is toes?!
