1) Don’t be shy

The idea of approaching people you don’t know can be quite intimidating in the beginning. So begin your networking efforts by seeking out friends, relatives and ex-colleagues, asking for introductions and working your way through more social and work circles as you go along. Soon it will feel very natural.

2) Dream big

Write down your goals or look for inspiring pictures and create a vision board. Whatever goals you wish to achieve along the way – from a dream holiday or a new car, to financial and personal achievements – goes on it. Work until you achieve them and don’t settle for less. Remember, the sky’s the limit!

3) Always be prepared

Always have your business cards and information about your business handy when you are on the go. They are the most effective way for you to leave your name behind so that people remember who you are. It’s also very useful to practice conversation starters and answers to frequently asked questions or responses to compliments you might get.

4) Be yourself

Always be authentic, genuine, honest and help people feel good about themselves – that’s all you have to do to network. People will be drawn to you.

5) Be passionate about what you do

Whatever you do, do it with great passion and be enthusiastic about it. Talking about things you love will automatically let you appear more engaging and people will love to hear all about it.

6) Don’t be afraid of hearing ‘No’

You might have to get 10 nos in order to get one yes. Therefore find joy in collecting these nos and reward yourself along the way. For example:

  • 10 nos – a pedicure.
  • 30 nos – a girls night out.
  • 50 nos – a new dress.

7) Teamwork makes the dream work

Surround yourself with a supporting and fun team you enjoy working with. As a Stella & Dot Stylist you have your Sponsor who is your mentor and helps you with your first steps – later on you will be sponsoring more people and your team will grow bigger, offering you even greater opportunities. All you have to do is ask and its so much more fun with friends!

Even if you don’t have a ready-made team, you can create one by finding like-minded freelancers or business owners who live or work near you and form your own informal support/mastermind group.

8) Stay positive

Always believe in yourself in order to succeed – you have to convince yourself before you can convince others. Think of the big picture even if you experience a rough patch. You might not always feel confident but that doesn’t mean you can’t play the part.

9) Sell socially

Take advantage of new business structures such as social selling. Promote your business on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter. Discover the channel you like best and start connecting with your friends, customers and team. And then remember to keep it personal – make sure people know you are talking directly to them.

10) Learn from your successes

Try to learn as many important daily lessons as possible. Also don’t be afraid to ask others for their best practices as well – they will be more than happy to share them with you.
