Elena Torres lives with her husband and three-year-old daughter in Brighton. She is currently eight months’ pregnant with her second daughter. Find out why she loves being a Stella & Dot Stylist.
Why did you become a Stella & Dot Stylist?
Jewellery was always a big passion for me. I did a degree in tourism and event management and loved working in this sector before I had my daughter. Unfortunately it was not a family job, I had to decide who I prefer to see all day long, my child or my working colleagues.
Stella & Dot was cruising on my mind for quite a long time, but I was not sure if I will have enough time. When a friend of mine said: Just do it! You have nothing to lose! I signed up and think it was the best decision (work-wise) I have ever made.
Why do you love Stella & Dot?
From a customer’s point of view I love Stella & Dot for its quality, versatility, variety, always bang on trend, its different, eye-catching and just beautiful.
From an employee’s point of view I can’t believe how much support and help we get. I learned so much in the past three months, and not just business wise, also for myself.
It’s amazing, as every single person in this community is so helpful with anything. The rewards are amazing. I love what the company stands for and I am a proud Stella &Dot member.
What qualities do you need to be a successful Stella & Dot stylist?
Style, communication skills, positivity and motivation.
How many hours a week do you dedicate to your business?
I work about 15 hours a week and try to do it when my little one is at nursery (three mornings a week).
I write a daily to do list and work through it, make calls, book Trunk Shows, coaching calls with my team, social media etc. I try to have at least four Trunk Shows a week or do one-to-one styling sessions with my customers.
How do you balance your work around your family?
I include my family in my work. For example, when we go out for walks, we take the look books with us and just hand them out together – my little one loves it!
I’ve also taken her to a few Trunk Show and she really enjoyed it – she loves the jewellery and gets really excited.
And what do you plan to do when your baby arrives?
The other day I booked a Trunk Show for August. The baby is due end of June, so I will give myself a couple of weeks off but I don’t want to be out of it for too long. Running this business is like therapy for me, it’s my own little thing away from just being a mummy and wife.
What was the biggest turning point in your Stella & Dot career?
I signed up five new stylists within my own Jumpstart (first 60 days). Three of them are from Germany so I have an international business, which is perfect for me as I am originally from Germany so I can have my business across both countries building.
Where would you like to see your business in three years’ time?
I would like to become a Director and grow the Brighton area. There are not a lot of Stylists in this area yet, so that’s a great opportunity for me – I love telling people about Stella & Dot.
What’s your favourite Stella & Dot product and why?
At the moment the Birdie necklace! I love the composition of soft leather, chiffon and metal! It is so pretty and I always get compliments when I’m wearing it.
And finally, what are your three top business tips for mums?
- Don’t overthink it, just do it! You have nothing to lose.
- Connect, connect, connect everywhere – mummy groups, baby groups, your old school friends etc. Plant seeds wherever you go and it will pay off.
- Set yourself challenges and break them down in daily activities. Just take it step-by-step and you’ll go far!
